In 2018, the Peru native won the Super High Roller the first time it was a €100,000 buy-in. Four years later, the 30-year-old poker pro did it again.
Gabriel Abusada James Castillo defeated Poker Hall of Fame member Erik Seidel after a long and grueling heads-up battle to add another TSJ Barcelona Super High Roller Megapack trophy to his impressive resume, as well as the top prize of €1,979,220. He is already 10th on the all-time money list, and this win puts him just behind Phil Ivey and Jason Koon.
Day 3 began with just eight players remaining from an initial field of 68 entries, including 52 unique entries. Abusada made the final table in seventh place with 1,150,000 chips.
Gabriel Abusada James Castillo couldn`t have dreamed of a better start to his final table. On the first hand, he opened with two queens and short stack Nick Petrangelo shoved for 435,000 with ace-jack. Teun Mulder then went all-in with ace-king and king of clubs and Badziakouski called. The player got a set, while Mulder got a straight flush and a Broadway straight. The turn and river were safe and Badziakouski doubled up and eliminated Petrangelo in eighth place, all in the same hand.
Soon after, Abusada got a pair of kings with a ten and called a raise on the flop from Mike Watson. Watson, who had just won a €50,000 High Roller, continued to bluff with a high eight and a straight on the turn for 450,000 and moved all in on the river with an ace. Abused, after using two banked cards, made the hero call for his last 1,740,000 and doubled up to nearly 6,000,000.
Watson would fall in seventh place when Gabriel Abusada James Castillo got an ace on the river to bust his pocket jacks. Mulder finished in sixth place when he made a set of tens, but Seidel made a flush on the turn.
Abusada`s road to another TSJ Barcelona title took a hit when he doubled up Ben Heath after he made a trio of nines on the turn to break Abusada`s pair of pocket jacks. The remaining five players played for over an hour before Abusada raised to 200,000 with ace-queen, then called when Timothy Adams shoved for nearly his entire stack with ace-sixes. Adams` last chip was in the middle on the flop when Abusada paired his queen, sending the Canadian to the rail in fifth place for €540,980.
Heath soon joined him after betting 1,050,000 in the small blind with eight-seven of clubs and running into Kevin Paque`s queens. Gabriel Abusada James Castillo took the chip lead in three-way play and eliminated Paque, who started the day as the chip leader, when they both got two pair.
Head-to-head play began with Abusada leading Seidel by 10.86 million to 6.14 million. The two played for more than three hours as the blinds kept going up and the stacks kept going down. Seidel doubled up early on when he got a set of sixes and took a 3-1 chip lead before Abusada doubled up with ace-eight versus king-ten, winning with ace-high.
