Unions to rate ministers today*

AN ASSESSMENT of several Government ministers will be done by trade unionists during Labour Day celebrations today in Fyzabad. The theme for this year’s event is “Eighty years of struggle and sacrifice of the labour movement in service to Trinidad and Tobago”. It was 80 years ago that the June 19, 1937 general strike and anti-colonial revolt saw the formation of trade unions.

No to retrenchments, no to job cuts, wage freezes and any other form of austerity measures… There will be an assessment of the Government’s performance to date, including a review of several ministers, as well as an announcement by comrade Ancel Roget (president of the Joint Trade Union Movement and president general of the OWTU).”
